UPDATE #6    SPACESHIPS

BUILDING STAGE

YOUTUBE VIDEO of the 3D printed model for Nowhere Girl. I shot this with my cell phone really quick, and added some sound effects for the fun of it. Now imagine the model painted/internal lighting/CG exhaust etc. and shot against green screen.... and well, maybe we will have a movie ;)

Concept Art:

Early concept art. The poster is meant to convey a vintage 70's sci fi feel. This is indicative of the approach we are taking towards our first science fiction feature film.

We will be filming insert shots for "Nowhere Girl" at a airplane graveyard.

Log Line:

After crash-landing her Spacecraft on an unknown barren planet, a young woman along with her Robot counterpart are left for dead as she struggles with her fate, her mortality, and a dysfunctional family consisting of one alien, one human, and one machine.

Synopsis:

In a failed attempt to impress her father, who’s also her military squadron Commander, Nat engages in a firefight with an alien spacecraft. Nat shoots down the alien ship but in doing so, also crashes her spaceship on a desolate planet. Her father is unable to rescue his lost daughter. Nat is left alone on the planet with her companion robot Orbot, and an alien child from the alien ship’s wreckage. Nat must come to terms with her mortality, saying goodbye to her father whom she failed, raising an alien creature, and handling an increasingly agitated robot. Nat will never have the life and family she wanted, but she does have a dysfunctional family of one human, one alien, and one machine.

Status:

"Nowhere Girl" is currently in the early pre-production phase and is slated to film early 2020.

Production update.... pre-production is coming along well. The previous FX company was fired for dubious business practices (a lot more will be coming out publicly on this shortly). However in the meantime a new FX company was hired, and we are happy to report they are leaps and bounds better! This new professional company has worked on such shows as Netflix's "Black Mirror" etc.

DESIGN STAGE

Early Pre-Production Status:

PROPS / SETS

As you can see below, we are assembling the props/sets to build the interior of the spaceship.

What follows below are a few sporadic updates on the pre-production phase of NOWHERE GIRL. Sporadic for the simple reason that I’m the type of filmmaker who just does the work, rather then the type who’s all talk.

LOCATIONS

We also have a lot of the locations already scouted. Here we see ruins that our protagonist investigates on the "desolate" planet.

UPDATE #15   "NOWHERE GIRL" SET - VERSION 2

Promo video edited together using location footage we shot using a drone.

Preliminary location scouting for the film.

UPDATE #7   EVOLUTION OF A PROP BEING MADE

Designing shots for "Nowhere Girl". I think in terms of visuals.... and I'm influenced a lot by music. I often find myself converting the emotions I feel from a song, into the visuals of a film.

I stumbled across this random video online. In this reference shot, I love the pure synth music and the cloud landscape. Of note is one particular shot of the silhouette of an airplane. That one image resonated with me.

So in “Nowhere Girl” I have a girl stranded on a planet, looking up into the sky, as a space ship flies high above her in the atmosphere.

That’s one part of the shot, the other….

I’m also fascinated by non verbal communication. So for example if you go on a date, what is said between the dialogue, the stolen glances you catch, or the awkward pauses say as much as the simple rhetoric.

With those two things in mind, I have an emotional scene in the film where the girl looks up into the sky, staring at a loved one in a spaceship that flies by. The music swells as she reaches her hand upwards to the heavens. No words are said, simply because they aren’t needed.
